This Week: Weisman’s THE WORLD WITHOUT US & Weber’s TRIANGLE
November 1st, 2007
Alan Weisman talks about his acclaimed book THE WORLD WITHOUT US. Also, Katharine Weber tells us about her novel, TRIANGLE.
Weisman’s “thought experiment” looks at what would happen to the earth if human beings suddenly vanished. How would the Earth heal? How might it remain changed by the heavy footprint of humans on the planet. In our conversation, Weisman explores these ideas and suggests some ways that the Earth can heal with us.
Weber’s novel TRIANGLE blends fact and fiction to tell the story the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Moving between 1911 and 2001, it treats the themes of family, stories and secrets. Weber will be appearing at the Jewish Book Fair at the Springfield Jewish Community Center on November 8, 2007. Our conversation with Weber is the first in a three-part Writer’s Voice series on authors featured at the 2007 Jewish Book Fair.
The Jewish Book Fair series on Writer’s Voice is supported in part by a grant from the Jewish Arts & Culture Initiative of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.
