FAST COMPANY is a funny, charming memoir of what happened when David M. Gross left his job as a young Manhattan corporate finance lawyer to help turn failing sport motorcycle company Ducati around for its new owners. In our conversation, we talk about the Italian preference for quality over crass materialism, the tug-of-war between family and identity for gay Italians — and very fast, very sexy motorcycles.
Also, Alana Newhouse is arts editor of the English-language edition of the venerable Jewish newspaper, The Forward. She edited A LIVING LENS, which collects photos of events and people around the world, Jewish and non-Jewish, found in the archives of the Forward from the past 100 years. She talks about this graphic historical chronicle as well as about how The Forward changed journalism in America.
