We talk with Slate Magazine’s chief political correspondent, John Dickerson, about ON HER TRAIL: My Mother, Nancy Dickerson, TV News’ First Woman Star. We also find out about writing romance novels from Linda Cardillo, author of DANCING ON SUNDAY AFTERNOONS.
John Dickerson’s mother was a pioneering newswoman who covered the Congress and the White House during the Camelot years and beyond. Beautiful, vivacious and smart, she moved in the highest circles of Washington society, battling gender barriers to become the first woman television news star. But the image she presented to the public was very different from the one she showed at home. It was only after her death that John Dickerson was able to reconcile the two. He’s written a fascinating portrait of his mother, Washington, and what the life of a political correspendent is like.
And in honor of Valentine’s Day, we talk with romance novelist Linda Cardillo. She tells us what it’s like to write a romance novel, the many subgenres within it and how the genre is changing to promote a more empowered image of women. Her debut novel, DANCING ON SUNDAY AFTERNOONS, has just been published by Harlequin.
