This Week - January 5: Eve Ensler and Peter Barnes

January 4th, 2007

We talk with creator of the Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler, about her new book, INSECURE AT LAST: Losing It In Our Security Obsessed World. We also hear from Working Assets founder Peter Barnes about his ideas for a new operating system for our economy: CAPITALISM 3.0.

Playwright, performer and activist Eve Ensler sparked a world-wide movement with her play, The Vagina Monologues. Dedicated to ending violence against women, the play — and the organization it engendered, V-Day — has been translated into 45 languages and performed all over the world. Now, Ensler has come out with a new book, INSECURE AT LAST: Losing It In Our Security Obsessed World. In it she asks whether our obsession with security is making us more fearful than ever — and what does “security” really mean? Join as as we explore security, insecurity and breaking down the walls that make us less secure.

Also, does capitalism need a new operating system? Peter Barnes, cofounder of Working Assets Long Distance says it does. And it needs to be founded on new mechanisms for protecting our common wealth as citizens of the planet: nature, culture and community. He’s written CAPITALISM 3.0: A Guide to Reclaiming the Commons. Tune in to hear about these new mechanisms and how they just might save us from the looming catastrophe. Barnes will be speaking at the Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley, MA on Sunday January 14 at 3 PM. To read or download the book for free, go to Barnes’ blog at www.onthecommons.org.
