This Week - December 21: Studs Terkel & Richard Michelson
December 21st, 2006
We talk with author and poet Richard Michelson about growing up Jewish in an African-American neighborhood in New York and his books for children that came from that experience. Also, we play an interview we first aired last year with the great Studs Terkel.
Two weeks ago, Richard Michelson read from his newest book for children, ACROSS THE ALLEY. But he’s also written other wonderful books for kids. We talk about two of them: HAPPY FEET and TOO YOUNG FOR YIDDISH. He’ll be reading from ACROSS THE ALLEY at the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA on December 25 at 11 AM. Michelson also writes poetry for adults–his latest work is BATTLES AND LULLEBIES. He’ll be reading from that work at the Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley, MA, along with poet Martin Espada, on February 28.
And Studs Terkel, the Eclectic Disc Jockey and oral historian extraordinaire joins us for a music-filled interview about his last book, AND THEY ALL SANG. It’s now out in paperback from the New Press.
