“It’s not the voting that’s democracy, it’s the counting.”
Tom Stoppard, British dramatist & screenwriter (1937 -) Jumpers (1972) Act 1.

Was the 2004 election stolen? That’s the question Steve Freeman, co-author with Joel Bleifuss of a book of that title asks — and answers. Continuing our Election 2006 series, we talk with Freeman. He’s also a founder of Election Integrity (see The Vote Count Protection Project below). And we speak with Yale law professor Bruce Ackerman, who talks about his book BEFORE THE NEXT ATTACK: Preserving Civil Liberties in an Age of Terrorism.
WAS THE 2004 ELECTION STOLEN: Exit Polls, Election Fraud, and the Official Count takes a close look at a phenomen none in the mainstream media have been willing to examine: the discrepancy in 2004 between the exit polls–taken of voters just as they exited the polling places–and the official vote count. Exit polls have been used around the world to judge the accuracy of elections. Even the US government has done so–but not when the election was on our own turf. Tune in to hear about the fraud that was–and what might happen again this year, if we don’t watch out.
Ben Franklin said, “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Bruce Ackerman has some ideas of how to preserve liberty and safety. In BEFORE THE NEXT ATTACK, he proposes new forms of checks and balances that can enable a president to act decisively in a crisis–without endangering the civil liberties he (or she) is legally bound to protect. We talk with Ackerman, Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University.
