We talk with two authors, Amy Goodman and Cathy Sultan. Goodman gives us a live interview by phone from Albuquerque, NM, where she’s on tour promoting her new book, STATIC: Government Liars, Media Cheerleaders and the People Who Fight Back. Goodman and her co-author, brother David Goodman, expose how the Bush administration has manipulated and fabricated news and how the corporate media has worked hand in glove with the powerful to deceive the public. They report on the many people who have taken a stand and are fighting back, but whose stories often don’t make it into the mainstream media. Goodman will be coming to the Pioneer Valley on October 4, to Chapin Auditorium at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley at 7PM.
Also, Cathy Sultan talks about her powerful memoir, A BEIRUT HEART: One Woman’s War. It’s the story of an American woman who lived through the Lebanese civil war for eight years and tried to sustain a normal life with her Lebanese husband and two small children amidst the bombs, missiles, snipers and chaos. Sultan moved with her family to Lebanon in 1969. For six years they led an ideal life experiencing the rich culture and breathtaking landscape of a city located on the Mediterranean shore. But in 1975, their lives changed forever. Listen to our interview with Sultan as she tells us how. Sultan will be giving a reading at the Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley at 7pm, on Friday, 9/29, after the show.
